The Highlands in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, hosted a Red Sox Day on MLB’s Opening Day, March 28, 2019, with the World Series trophy as the guest of honor!
“The residents were eagerly waiting for the arrival of the trophy in our main living room,” said MaryAnn Melanson, admissions and marketing director. “They all began to sing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ when the trophy arrived with two security members of the Boston Red Sox franchise.”
Residents, family members, associates and members of the community stopped by to admire and be photographed with the trophy. Associates served good old ballgame fare, including hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts. Members of the Fitchburg Police Department and Fitchburg Fire Department, staff from the Sinonds Cancer Center, along with several other community members, also stopped in for the refreshments and photos.
“What an exciting day!” said a short-term resident at The Highlands. “I never expected this to happen while receiving rehab.”
“Many residents are lifelong Red Sox fans,” said Melanson. “It was a joy to see their expressions while their photos were taken with the trophy.”
