On the last Friday of the every other month, The Highlands in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, hosts a Movie Night for associates and their children and grandchildren, as well as residents at the skilled nursing and rehab center.
The Movie Nights started in March 2017 as an opportunity for intergenerational fun and a chance for the children to see where their parents and grandparents work.
“It is so cute to watch the kids sitting, eating popcorn and dancing at the end of the movie to their favorite song,” said one resident.
“My girls love coming and meeting the other kids,” said John Richard, rehab aide. “It is also good to give back to the employees and enjoy this time with the kids.”
“I love to show off my grandchildren!” added Lyn Hawkins, registered nurse supervisor.
So far, the featured movies have included “Trolls” and “Sing.”
MaryAnn Melanson, director of admissions, shared, “It is a way to show our associates we listen to them and try to provide a family environment not only for them but for their families and our residents.”
